No Justifying, Just Say "No"

No
"NO!"

Does uttering that word make you cringe, or do you feel empowered?

Okay, how about "Oh, I can't... you see, I've got to do all these other things, such as...."

You don't need to shout, "NO!" (or "Hell, no!"), or even imply that you would if you weren't so darned busy with a large list of other noble things to do, or an explanation of your lack of skills, and so on. You can simply say, "No" or add a courtesy, "No. Thank you for asking."

When you really don't want to do something, you know it. Likely, you've created a pattern that either gets you in over your head by saying "Yes," or you've learned to say "No," but justify it in some way.

NO, you don't have to do what you don't want to do because someone has asked, or  think that you should. NO, you don't need to add excuses for not doing whatever was requested. If you begin to understand that NO is a complete sentence, you can graciously, confidently, powerfully and honestly just say "No."

Haha funny this is exactly what I just commented on another post! I 100 % agree and it is so freeing to not have that extra weight of needing to have a justification hovering, just a clean Yes or a No.

Yes, just a simple No can be so freeing. And I love the word you used: clean. Indeed.

As a prior people pleaser, it took a long time to learn that saying NO was self care, self preservation and so very important. I love that it is a complete sentence. No. Even though I do add the thanks for asking. ;) Grateful that I learned that I don't have to explain why either. If someone persists I have found "No thanks, it doesn't fit into my schedule" will usually satiate them. This allows more time for me time. ;) Thanks for sharing the importance of just saying NO.

I like that: "It doesn't fit into my schedule." I find it so interesting how people have a hard time "accepting" NO as an answer, and look for ways to get us to say YES.
