Taking Time Out

Most of us spend the majority of our time in contact with the world and others. We work, run errands, watch the evening news and so on. Perhaps one day this week, you take a much deserved time out.

What does it mean to have a time out?

For starters, you could clear your calendar of all obligations and choose to do nothing at all. A time out isn't necessarily a vacation or weekend get-away; I'm talking specifically about taking a time out from your daily routine, from interacting with others, from watching TV, from browsing the internet, from driving, and all those other things you do on a regular basis.

Just sit home and do nothing?

Sure, why not? Of course, your time out can be spent doing things you love, but rarely find the time to enjoy. Imagine reading a novel all day. What about pulling out those crafts or hobbies and create something that has absolutely no "purpose"?

It may seem like a stretch to give yourself a full time out day, so begin with a smaller segment of time, if necessary. Who knows? Maybe you'll enjoy your time out so much you'll start a whole new tradition and give yourself one day a week. Maybe you can call those days Sabbath or Sundays.

Time Out, I love it! Such an important part of self care. I am on a personal retreat hoping to stretch it out for about 5 days. If something comes up, and I have to come out of my "shell", at least I know I will return quickly. I feel this time out is needed before the shift I feel coming. Rejuvenating.

Isn't it interesting that we've been in a collective time out?! Maybe it's to help us recognize the stillness, the need, the rejuvenation of it all. Ahhhhhhh..... so glad you took the time for a conscious retreat!
